International Rehab Software Corp. Enters the Chiropractic Market

Tonix Santé, an International Rehab Software Corporation, has its headquarters in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Tonix has a video (and optional radiographic) analysis package. AP, PA, optional vertical view, and lateral posture are digitized. Included in the program are calculations of biomechanical stresses, centers of gravity, weak muscles, and hypertonic muscles based on postural position. The program provides a complete report to the patient. The patient report includes the patient’s comprehensive exercise program, with examples, for reconstructing normal posture.

The Tonix system is used throughout the world by DCs, PTs, and MDs. At his own Rehab center, Tonix’s CEO and founder, Sylvain Guimond, has successfully rehabbed some of the world’s most famous professional athletes. In an interview, Mr. Guimond explained that most rehab efforts neglect abnormal upright postural distortions. The patient receiving “functional” rehab feels better, but the asymmetrical postural distortions cause a return of the symptoms in the extremities due to asymmetrical stresses from the supporting posture.

The Tonix’s analysis and exercise regime takes the guess work out of rehab practice and requires the patient to be on a program of care. This is exactly where chiropractors and their patients can benefit, suggests Mr. Guimond. He states that, in the managed care era, objective data is needed to substantiate necessity of care. Chiropractors utilizing the Tonix system have gotten paid for the analysis and also have observed an increase in patient retention as the postural exercises are monitored by the DC. Besides postural symmetry and alignment, muscle strength and endurance is emphasized.

The reputation of Tonix is getting well known in the fields of rehabilitation and athletic performance improvements. Numerous amateur and professional athletes have benefited from Tonix. Professional hockey players, speed skaters, Olympic Gold Medalists, football players, and baseball players (ex: John Smoltz).

Martin Normand, PhD, DC, MS has been teaching Biomechanics at the University of Quebec at Three Rivers for 17 years. Dr. Normand has a PhD in Neurobiology, and an MS in Biomechanics, and a DC degree from the new chiropractic college within the University of Quebec educational system. He has been conducting research with the Tonix system. He has 300 students in his data base at present. Dr. Normand states that with the numerical analysis of rotations and translations of postural parts provided by the Tonix system, research on posture is made reliable and valid.

Many universities and teaching establishments have adopted the Tonix System in conjunction with their biomechanical courses. To name a few: Baylor, McGill, Parker, Life, etc.
