Parker College and Seminars Begin Celebration Preparations
by Dr Fabrizio Mancini, F.I.C.C., F.A.C.C
President of Parker College of Chiropractic
Dr. Fabrizio Mancini is President of Parker Seminars and Parker College of Chiropractic. He is a 1990 graduate of Parker and operated successful chiropractic practices in the United States and Europe. While in private practice, Dr. Mancini developed a reputation as a skillful public speaker and lecturer on success, motivation, chiropractic and wellness. As a respected leader and expert in the chiropractic field, Dr. Mancini has earned numerous awards and international recognition including most recently the Humanitarian Award from the American Black Chiropractic Association, the President’s Award from the Texas Chiropractic Association and an appointment as a member of the Texas Governor’s Advisory Council on Physical Fitness.

Parker College of Chiropractic and Parker Seminars are in the midst of preparations for two special milestones. Parker College will mark its 25th year while Parker Seminars celebrates its 55th anniversary in 2007.
Parker College continues to provide innovative instruction and we are proud of our many efforts to stay on the forefront of chiropractic education. Parker Seminars continues to lead the chiropractic profession through our dynamic and relevant programs for the chiropractic and other wellness professions.
Please allow me to share a few of our most recent accomplishments.
Continued Accreditation
The Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Chiropractic Education granted Parker College the maximum accreditation award in January 2006. A team from CCE visited the campus in September 2005, to review Parker’s programs and Parker representatives appeared before the Commission on Accreditation in Scottsdale, Arizona. The maximum accreditation was awarded following our meeting with the Commission.
New Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness
There is a growing need to prepare health and wellness specialists for the continually changing and expanding professional roles in healthcare. Beginning in May 2006 Parker College will offer a Bachelor of Science degree in “Health and Wellness.” The program will provide rigorous academic studies in an interdisciplinary program to prepare men and women for many healthcare related careers.
This program provides an additional degree opportunity for chiropractic students and is attractive to those looking to supplement their chiropractic degree with a bachelor of science. This distinctive degree program is also a good fit for those are looking at careers in corporate wellness centers, fitness settings, and community health and college health services.
Enrollment Cap
For the second consecutive trimester, Parker College placed students on a waiting list for admission while the cumulative grade point average for entering Parker students rose to an all-time institutional high. We instituted the enrollment cap after carefully performing a cost-benefit analysis, including facility usage, class size, faculty to student ratio, and clinic student distribution, as well as other factors. We believe the quality of the education that Parker students receive is far more important than the quantity of students.
Parker College has a rich history and a fine reputation as a leading chiropractic college. We continue to build a culture of excellence that encourages the teaching and learning process.
Research Award
A team from Parker’s Research Institute led by Dr. Xue-Jun Song claimed the prestigious first place for the best scientific paper at the World Federation of Chiropractic Eighth Biennial Congress. This is the highest research award made in the chiropractic profession. Through diligent, precise and creative research such as Dr. Song’s work and that of our entire research staff, we are developing verifiable data to demonstrate what we already know — chiropractic is one of the safest and most powerful healing tools available today. Our research institute continues to be published in many of the most credible chiropractic and medical journals.
Clinic Abroad
Parker College’s Clinic Abroad program is the first of its kind among U.S. chiropractic schools. Each trimester a group of Parker students study at the Universidad Estatal del Valle de Ecatepec (UNEVE), located in Mexico City, Mexico. They develop their chiropractic skills by serving as interns for four hours a day in the public clinic and the local hospital. The students study the Spanish language for four hours each day and have weekend field trips to learn about the rich Mexican culture and visit museums, pyramids, churches and much more. These experiences are a total immersion of the culture, language and health needs of the country.
Faculty Development Program
Like Parker College’s Clinic Abroad program, the college’s Faculty Development Program enables foreign chiropractic faculty members to teach, study and live in another country. Five faculty members from UNEVE are presently working with Parker faculty, staff and students and receive specialized instruction in various avenues of academic and clinical leadership. They are also receiving rigorous language instruction and will have the many cultural and civic experiences - primarily in the Dallas metroplex area and the State of Texas.
Both of our international programs provide the college many opportunities to take chiropractic across our U.S. borders, in particular to areas often under-medically served.
Participation in international athletic competitions
The international reach of Parker College is further extended by its participation in athletic events in foreign countries. Parker College provided staff chiropractors for the 2005 Bolivarianos Games in Colombia in August of 2005. In July 2006, we will provide a staff of chiropractors for the Central America and Caribbean Games to be held in Cartagena, Colombia. These are the second oldest Olympian games with 32 countries and approximately 6,000 athletes competing. Parker College is privileged to participate in such historical events. In addition to providing chiropractic care to world-class athletes, millions of sporting enthusiasts will see the benefit of chiropractic in a very positive setting
Parker Seminars travels overseas
Augmenting Parker College’s international outreach, Parker Seminars sponsored a seminar in Australia in 2005 and is planning a November 2006 seminar in Japan. It is an honor to bring Parker Seminars to our chiropractic colleagues in other countries. Parker Seminars attendees come from around the world. The universal and timeless principles, concepts and philosophies first taught by Dr. James Parker have no geographical barriers. Profits from our international programs are invested in those countries for the advancement of chiropractic education and research.
Las Vegas seminar continues as leader in profession
Parker Seminars kicked off its Leadership Is Contagious campaign during our January Las Vegas event. Internationally respected speakers Dr. Wayne Dyer and Les Brown and chiropractic leaders such as Dr. Gilles Lamarche, Dr. Bob Hoffman, Dr. Patrick Gentempo and Dr. Maurice Pisciottano inspired the thousands in attendance.
Throughout 2006, Parker Seminars will lead the profession through a series of leadership lessons teaching how to share the chiropractic vision with those lead and served. It is our intent to light the fires of leadership within the chiropractic community so we can multiply our influence and be the difference-makers in the world.
Looking toward 2007
Parker College will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2007. The school opened in 1982 with 27 students and the first class graduate in September 1985. Parker College’s curriculum - both basic and chiropractic - was then, and, is today integrated with the teachings of Dr. James Parker.
In addition to Parker College’s silver anniversary celebration, 2007 will mark the 55th anniversary of Parker Seminars. Ten chiropractors attended the first seminar conducted by Dr. James W. Parker. Fifty-five years later, Parker Seminars continues to provide outstanding events to our profession.
These two special commemorations provide us a powerful opportunity to communicate Parker College’s and Parker Seminars’ values and vision for the future, as well as provide a historical perspective. Anniversaries also help us take a good look at our future giving us the impetus to carefully plan how to progressively move into the future.
Special celebrations planned
Parker Seminars plans to kick off the 55th Anniversary Celebration in Las Vegas February 7-9. The 25th anniversary of the college will be marked with a combined Homecoming/Dallas Seminar March 29-31.
Our two celebrations are milestones for the chiropractic profession. This is a wonderful opportunity to inspire the next generation of chiropractic leaders and professionals. Through our special commemorative events, we can bring together all of our colleagues so we can help bring chiropractic to the masses worldwide.
