Organic Chiropractic
by Palmer Peet, DC
Palmer Peet, D.C, F.I.C.A. is a 1983 graduate of Life Chiropractic College. He has been in active practice with his wife Jennifer Peet, D.C., F.I.C.A. for 22 years, is the co-founder of the Baby Adjusters, and is a Representative Assemblyman for the International Chiropractors Association. Dr. Peet also serves as the Secretary for the Vermont Chiropractic Association, and has been looking for freshies on his snowboard for the past 16 years.

Having practiced as a Doctor of Chiropractor over the past 22 years, I have heard the practice of chiropractic described in several different ways. There is straight chiropractic, mixed chiropractic, subluxation based chiropractic, principled chiropractic, broad scope chiropractic, evidenced based chiropractic, God-Patient-Chiropractor (GPC) chiropractic, and even the oxymoron of chiropractic medicine. When I realized that my favorite winter pastime and the type of chiropractic I choose to practice have commonality, I came up with the perfect description of the type of chiropractic I strive to practice.
Each winter I spend time with my what I call my “snowboarding buds,” and enjoy some of the best snowboarding in the east. When we ride, we enjoy such legendary ski areas as Stowe, Sugarbush, and Jay Peak, all within easy driving distance of our homes. We partake in what I have coined as “Organic Snowboarding.” Organic Snowboarding can be described as riding all day long and never once riding on a trail. I am not talking about riding recklessly out of bounds. I am talking about riding in the woods on the road less traveled within the confines of where it is legal to ride.
We ride our snowboards solely in the woods looking for “freshies” (untracked snow) on each and every run. We may cross over trails, or ride on them for just a few hundred yards, to make our way over to the chairlift or tram, only to once again search for some more virgin untracked powder in the woods. This is organic snowboarding. Here in the east we have two types of snow, man-made and natural. In the woods is where you find the natural snow, it’s where you’ll find the organic snow. Snowboarding occurs in the woods in a much more organic setting where the run you take may have been made by spring run off, avalanches, or because the slope itself is too steep for vegetation to grow on. Where you make your turns in the snow, is dictated more by natural law as governed by Universal Intelligence, than by a swath down a hill created by a bulldozer. Organic snowboarding is pure.
For me, I strive to practice “Organic Chiropractic.” Organic Chiropractic starts first and foremost with the chiropractor him/herself. Having a pure heart focused on the needs of others dedicated to serving for the sake of serving, giving for the sake of giving, and loving for the sake of loving. An Organic Chiropractor expects nothing in return. He/she only looks again for another chance to adjust another patient to release all the heaven within that person so health can be restored and maintained. Just like the Organic Snowboarder is always looking for another epic run in fresh powder, so too is the Organic Chiropractor never satisfied, and is looking for another patient to free from the detrimental effects of subluxations.
Organic Snowboarding takes more effort, but the fruits of hiking in for fresh powder is worth it. Being an Organic Chiropractor takes hard work, with long hours, and dedication to excellence in the quality of the adjustment given to each patient. The fruits of practicing as an Organic Chiropractor are worth it, as we get to witness the unfolding of the innate ability of our patients to heal from the inside out.
An Organic Chiropractor is pure in his/her duality of purpose. Firstly, they carry with them a purpose of focusing on correcting subluxations within as many people as possible. Then they fulfill a purpose of educating everyone, both within and out of his or her office, on the tremendous benefits of chiropractic care.
Those practicing Organic Chiropractic recognize their calling, and serve chiropractic 24/7. They serve by having a large practice and adjusting volumes of patients. They are involved within the political arena ensuring that chiropractic and chiropractic patients are properly represented by our government. They sit on state boards, belong to national chiropractic organizations, and show up at the legislature to testify for chiropractic. The Organic Chiropractor fights for his/her patients rights to access chiropractic. Organic chiropractors recognize that one cannot out give God, and are regular donors to their chiropractic alma maters, churches, synagogues, etc. Organic chiropractors are givers.
Finally, of all the ways and types of practicing chiropractic, the Organic Chiropractor adjusts each patient as if their LIFE depends on it, knowing that it does. What type of Chiropractor are you?
