Structural Rehab Tool
By Denise Perron, BS, DC
Dr. Perron presently is Vice President of Business Development for Biotonix, a technology company in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She received her DC degree from Palmer College in 1985. Before deciding to help advance Biotonix‚s entry into healthcare markets, she had a high volume chiropractic practice for 15 years. For the past 8 years, Dr. Perron has been a member of the Board of Directors of Somiper Inc., which owns assets in the biotechnology, pulp and paper and aviation industries. She has lectured on Postural analysis and protocols of care at many different chiropractic colleges and universities, including Parker, CMCC, UQTR, as well as medical institutions such as Stanford, and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Since 2002, Dr Perron has also been involved with lecturing to Chiropractors and healthcare practitioners in Japan.

In my capacity at Biotonix, an Internet Technology company in Montreal, I have helped to research and develop two products, a posture analysis for Sports Fitness and a Functional Rehab/posture analysis (called the BioPrint) for DCs, PTs, and MDs.
For the past 9 months, I have been in charge of developing an accurate postural digitizer with a structural rehabilitation program. We have termed this product, the “PosturePrint.” Instead of providing a plumb line analysis, this product provides displacements of the head, rib cage, and pelvis in degrees and millimeters for rotation and translations in x-y-z coordinates. The structural rehabilitation exercises are the exact opposite movement (Mirror Image®) of the measured displacements.
The procedure is as follows. The patient stands in front of a wall grid with a precision helmet on the patient’s head, both provided in the PosturePrint Starter Kit. The DC places reflective markers on a few anatomical locations on the patient (11), then 3 digital photographs are obtained. On the computer screen the DC chooses 18 additional “click-on” anatomical points. This information is sent over the Internet through the PosturePrint computer algorithm. The computer code calculates all the postural displacements and links to corrective exercises.
All this and more comes in the form of a printed Report of Posture Findings, which includes (1) definitions of normal and abnormal posture, (2) reproduced digital photographs of the patient, (3) tables of the patient’s displacements in the AP and lateral views, (4) exercise plan with patient log book, (5) illustrated exercises with descriptions, (6) review of the literature concerning time frames needed for postural improvements from exercise, and (7) a medical necessity letter that can be sent to 3rd party payers. This report can be reimbursable using (1) EM Counseling: 99213-25 (15 min) = Report of Findings = service doc-patient face to face counseling and (2) 97750 = Physical performance test or measurement complete with written Report. Thus, when coverage is available, the DC can charge much more than the $30 cost of the analysis and report.
The major advancements of this new PosturePrint system are the detailed measurements in degrees and millimeters that make clinical research possible. Our company, Biotonix, has partnered with the ICA’s Posture Committee to conduct a large population study comparing health status with postural findings. We will make the data available for statistical analysis.
Posture is one of the parameters of health that most health care providers agree on. Finally an accurate system is available for clinical use. If you would like to have more information on our new PosturePrint, please contact:
